Updated: May 31, 2020

Wondering which are the best surf spots in Maldives? Want to visit the best surf breaks in Maldives on your surf trip?

BEST SURF SPOTS IN MALDIVES

Maldives has over 30 surf spots all located over hundreds of kilometres of coral reefs. There are four main surfing regions in the Maldives, which I detail more in my FREE 15 page 'Guide To An Epic Surf Trip In Maldives.'

The North Male’ Atoll (most popular)

• South Male’ Atoll

• The Central Atolls

• The Southern Atolls

NORTH MALÈ:

SURF SPOTS

Cokes

Chickens

• Baby Chickens

Sultans

Jails

Honkeys

• Ninjas

North Malé Atoll boasts the best waves, the most consistent swells and the cheapest accommodation. Being in close proximity to Malé Airport also draws both crowds and safari boats. North Malé Atoll is best for intermediate or expert surfers, although on small days breaks are beginner friendly. A selection of right and left hand breaks in the region, with three exclusive surf resorts: Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives - home of Pasta Point (left), Adaaran Hudhuran Fushi - home of Lohis (left) and Four Seasons Kuda Huraa (no exclusive wave but nearby Sultans and Jailbreaks). Surfers looking for Maldives surf spots with cheap hotels and guesthouses can see Thulusdhoo (Chickens & Cokes) & Guraidhoo Islands (Foxys & Rip Tides). More details in my FREE 15 page MALDIVES SURF TRIP e-BOOK.

SOUTH MALÉ ATOLL

SURF SPOTS

Quarters

Tucky Joes

Twin Peaks

Rip Tides

Foxys

• Kandooma Rights

South Malé Atoll is for all levels of surfers. It attracts less crowds and consistent swell, slightly smaller than in North Malé Atoll, however when conditions align the waves will challenge even experience surfers. Holiday Inn Kandooma is the exclusive surf resort, home to Kandooma Rights. Surfers on a budget can stay at Guraidhoo or Gulhi Islands to access nearby Maldives surf breaks such as Foxy's, Rips Tides and Quarters. More details in my FREE 15 page MALDIVES SURF TRIP e-BOOK.

CENTRAL ATOLLS:

SURF SPOTS

F1

• Mushrooms

Outside + Inside Mikados

Finnimas

Ying Yangs

Machines

Kasabu

Refugee's Rights

Vodi

The Central Atolls are where surfers can find uncrowded, medium sized waves, suitable for all levels of surfers. Here, surfers will find a variety of wave types from point breaks to barrel sections to mechanical reef breaks. Liveaboards are the best way to explore the Central Atolls as these Maldives surf breaks are spread over a large area. Liveaboards offer the flexibility to sail between Maldives surf spots according to surf conditions. Two exclusive surf resorts Six Senses Laamu (Yin-Yangs) and Niyama Private Island, home to Vodi Point. More details in my FREE 15 page MALDIVES SURF TRIP e-BOOK.

SOUTHERN ATOLLS:

SURF SPOTS

Beacons

Blue Bowls

Love Charms

Five Islands

• Tiger Stripes

The Southern Atolls are the most secluded surf region in terms of Maldives surf spots as it is furtherest from the airport. The area is open to the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Laccadive Sea and receives the most swell. Waves here are for experienced surfers, especially for fast, powerful and hollow barrel riding. The surf resort in the deep south is Ayada Maldives, with surfers will most likely find many empty lineups in this area of Maldives. More details in my FREE 15 page MALDIVES SURF TRIP e-BOOK.
